Accident Near Palace Pier Sparks Emergency Response
This afternoon, chaos hit the waters just south of Brighton Palace Pier when a Jet Ski smashed into a rigid inflatable boat (RIB). A female Jet Ski rider was hurt in the collision, sparking a rapid emergency response.
Rescue Teams Rush to Scene
Brighton Lifeboat and Brighton Beach Rescue Boat quickly arrived at the crash site. Meanwhile, the Lydd Coastguard rescue helicopter was scrambled, lowering a medic to assist the injured woman. Shoreham and Newhaven Coastguards also joined the rescue effort.
Victim Stable, Taken to Hospital
The woman was carefully brought back to Brighton Marina. Paramedics, assisted by Coastguard crews, transferred her to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The helicopter waited at Brighton’s landing site before departing at about 5:20pm once the medic was safely on shore.
Police Confirm Accident, Victims Known to Each Other
“Just before 3.30pm, a Jet Ski and rigid inflatable boat collided near Brighton Palace Pier. The woman on the Jet Ski was injured,” said a Sussex Police spokesman.
“Emergency services attended, and the woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The occupants of both craft are thought to be familiar with one another, and the collision is being treated as accidental.”
