A devastating fire ripped through a block of maisonettes on Lewisham Road, Ladywell, in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The blaze claimed lives and triggered a massive emergency operation in South East London.

Biggest Fire Brigade Response in Years

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) scrambled ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters to battle the fierce inferno. The fire broke out just before midnight and was declared under control at 2:02am, over two hours later. Crews came from 123, Lewisham, Lee Green and nearby stations to tackle the intense blaze.

Tragically, the fire has resulted in multiple fatalities. The exact death toll remains unconfirmed, with formal identification of the victims pending. A crime scene remains in place as police continue their probe.

Lewisham Road is currently closed between Penrose Way and Lewisham Hill while forensic teams work on the site. The fire has been classified as a Level Two hazardous incident.
