First Funeral Set for Derry Hill Crash Victim Ryan Nelson
The first of four funerals for the young men killed in last month’s fatal road crash in Derry Hill is happening this Friday (18/09). Ryan Nelson’s funeral cortege will pass through Calne, giving locals a chance to pay their respects.
Funeral Route Through Calne
The procession will roll past Calne Town Hall at 2pm before heading towards Tesco—where Ryan worked—via the bypass. The family has asked the public to stick to social distancing rules and avoid groups larger than six as they pay their final respects from the roadside.
Private Celebration of Life and Donations
After the service, a private celebration of Ryan’s life will take place at a Covid-secure venue by invitation only. The family has requested donations in Ryan’s memory be made to Wiltshire Air Ambulance, which can be given through Johnson and Daltrey Funeral Directors in Calne on 01249 821200.
Police and Council Support Families Amid Mourning
Inspector James Brain from Chippenham Police said: “We understand how much Ryan meant to those who loved him. His family wants to celebrate his life safely, without endangering public health. With four funerals in weeks, it’s a tough time for everyone saying goodbye. Please, especially young people in Calne, follow social distancing and government guidelines.”
Wiltshire Council Chief Executive Terence Herbert added: “This is a devastating time for the families of Ryan, Corey, Jordan, and Matthew. We’re supporting them and the police to ensure these tributes happen safely and within the law. These are unprecedented times, and we know how hard this is for everyone grieving.”
