Murder Probe Launched After Pensioner Found Dead

Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 79-year-old pensioner in north London. Officers were called to Dalmeny Road, N7, at around 7.20pm on Monday, 4 May, after reports of a man collapsed with a head injury.

Victim Identified as Anthony Rooks

Despite swift efforts by police and the London Ambulance Service, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been formally identified as Anthony Rooks. His family has been informed. A post mortem is scheduled at Whittington Hospital on Thursday, 7 May.

Suspect in Custody, Police Investigate Relationship

A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at a central London police station. Specialist Crime Command officers, led by Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, are examining the case. Detectives say the victim and suspect knew each other but are keeping an open mind on the motive.
