Tragic Blaze Claims Life in Epping Flat Fire
A man has died following a devastating fire at a ground-floor flat in Woodland Grove, Epping. The blaze rapidly spread from the flat up to the roof of the three-storey building and affected a neighbouring block of flats.
Emergency Response and Evacuations
Firefighters ordered all residents to evacuate immediately. By 8:30am, the Incident Commander confirmed the fire was under control, with crews tackling flames from inside the building and from above.
Road closures remain in place around Woodland Grove. Authorities urge everyone to avoid the area as fire crews continue damping down and extinguishing hot spots.
Investigation Underway and Support for Residents
Essex Police confirmed the man’s death at the scene. They were called by the fire service at 7am on Sunday, 21 June, after firefighters discovered the body during their response.
“A man has sadly died following a fire at a flat in Woodland Grove, Epping,” police said.
Epping Forest District Council has opened a rest centre at the Jack Silley Pavilion on Stonards Hill to support displaced residents. Council staff and councillors are on site providing help to those affected by the early morning blaze.
