Southampton Police and Council Deliver 2,000 Christmas Gifts to Kids in Need
Staff at Southampton’s police training HQ in Netley have been working round the clock to load gifts onto trucks, ensuring children in need get a magical Christmas this year. Teaming up with Southampton City Council, every single present donated is destined to make a child’s festive season extra special.
Big Names Unite to Hand Over Presents
Detective Superintendent Amanda Horsburgh and Management Assistant Julie Dennis welcomed key figures including members of Southampton City Council, the ACRO Criminal Records Office, and Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner Terry Norton to Netley for the official gift handover.
“I just want to say a massive thank you to everybody who has donated these presents. Every single donation is going to a real child,” said Det Supt Horsburgh. “We have a list of 2,000 names and we’ve smashed that this year. There’s a whole room filled with presents ready to brighten children’s Christmas thanks to everyone’s kindness and generosity.”
She added with excitement, “It’s incredible we are able to do something like this and I can’t wait to do it all again next year.”
Generosity Shines Amid Cost of Living Crisis
Deputy PCC Terry Norton expressed mixed feelings about the project. “It’s a shame we have to do things like this at all, but people’s generosity during the cost of living crisis is clear to see. More than 2,000 gifts will make sure Christmas is a joyful time for all.”
Revd Dom Jones, the Force Chaplain, chimed in: “This truly is the season of giving. You can barely walk in the room for all the presents. Thanks to everyone for giving so generously.”
Creating Lifelong Memories for Southampton’s Children
Steph Murray, Deputy Director for Children’s Social Care and Early Help at Southampton City Council, praised the joint effort: “We are incredibly grateful for the care and energy Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has poured into this year’s Christmas Toy Appeal.”
“Thanks to this fabulous team, 2,000 Southampton children will enjoy Christmas with beautiful gifts. This is about making lifelong memories. Thank you!”
