Early Sunday morning, Newcastle Central Community Fire Station crew faced an unusual emergency. Newcastle University students raised the alarm at 10am: seven ducklings were trapped down a storm drain at Castle Leazes Student Accommodation in Spital Tongues, Newcastle.
Mammy Duck’s Worry Spurs Quick Response
Blue Watch firefighters arrived to find a frantic mother duck circling the drain, flapping her wings anxiously. Students had first heard the urgent quacks but only realised the problem after spotting the ducklings trapped beneath the grate. It was clear Mammy duck knew help was on the way.
