Sex Offender Walks Free from London Prison by Mistake
William Fernandez, 24, was locked up awaiting trial for sexual assault, indecent exposure, and possessing a class B drug. But on the evening of Wednesday 24 March, he was accidentally released from HMP Wormwood Scrubs in west London.
Last Seen Hopping on London Underground
After his mistaken release, Fernandez reportedly caught the London Underground from East Acton station. CCTV captured him at Oxford Circus Underground Station at 8:38pm, then later walking along Wealdstone High Street at 9:24pm. Since then, no-one has seen or heard from him.
Police Hunt Missing Sex Offender
Fernandez had no fixed address before his 2020 arrest and is believed to be lurking somewhere in west London. Officers suspect he’s using public transport and transport hubs to stay under the radar. The Met has carried out extensive CCTV checks and house-to-house inquiries but remains on high alert.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucy O’Connor warned: “I would urge anyone who knows of Fernandez’s whereabouts to contact us immediately. Any information, no matter how small, may be able to assist our investigation.”
