Police Warn of Dangerous Ecstasy Tablets on Isle of Wight
Police on the Isle of Wight have issued a stark warning after a batch of rogue ecstasy tablets put at least four people in hospital. One victim remains in a serious condition.
Rogue Ecstasy Hits Newport Nightspot
The dangerous tablets are believed to have been sold around Yates bar on High Street, Newport, on July 1 and 2. Buyers were told the pills were ecstasy, but instead they caused victims to act drunk, become aggressive, scared, and even lose consciousness.
An 18-year-old man has been charged with supplying the drugs. The police stressed these tablets could be life-threatening.
Police Offer Amnesty to Return Pills
Officers are urging anyone who bought ecstasy recently to stop taking the tablets immediately. They want people to hand over any tablets to police safely. Those who do will not be prosecuted, as the force is focused on preventing further harm.
The tablets will be analysed and disposed of properly as part of the ongoing investigation. Yates bar is cooperating fully with the police inquiry.
NHS Hospital Overwhelmed by Drug-Related Cases
A spokesman for Isle of Wight NHS Trust said:
“These four individuals have had a very lucky escape, but it will be several weeks before we know if they will make a full recovery. St Mary’s Hospital opened an additional ward to treat and monitor them, resulting in cancelled surgeries on Saturday morning.”
