Two in Custody After Man Burned to Death on A406 in Ilford
Two men remain in custody as police launch a murder probe after a man died following a fire on the A406 in Ilford.
Horrific Blaze on A406
Police were called just before midnight on Tuesday, 18 June, to reports of a fire next to the southbound carriageway of the A406. London Fire Brigade and the London Ambulance Service rushed to the scene.
Two men in their 40s were found badly burned and taken to hospital. Tragically, one died the following day, Wednesday, 19 June. A post-mortem is scheduled for Saturday, 22 June. The other man remains in critical condition.
Police Treat Fire as Suspicious
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation and is being treated as suspicious. Both victims’ identities have not yet been confirmed.
Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are leading the probe.
Detective Sergeant Ian Valentine said: “We are working hard to establish the circumstances that led to this fatal fire and believe the public can assist us with our investigation.
“After the fire started, two men came onto the A406 seeking help from passing drivers. Anyone who saw or stopped to speak to them is urged to get in touch, especially if you have relevant dashcam footage.”
Two Arrested on Suspicion of Arson and Attempted Murder
Two men have been arrested on suspicion of arson and attempted murder. Both are currently held at an East London police station.
