Masked Gangs Launch Dusk-to-Dark Burglary Spree in Newry
Newry was hit by a brazen crime wave on the night of Friday, September 13, 2024. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) is cracking down after six aggravated burglaries rocked the town between 7pm and 10.30pm.
Multiple Raids by Masked Thugs Armed with Crowbars and Sledgehammers
- The spree kicked off in Kennard Villas where three masked men smashed in and stole three handbags.
- In a bold daylight-style raid in Carnagat Park, up to six intruders smashed through a front window with a sledgehammer.
- The terrified occupant chased them off as they sped away in a dark Volkswagen Golf.
- Other victims in Beechmount Park and Patrick Street suffered thefts of cash, jewellery, and phones.
Police Launch Full Investigation and Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Sergeant Cargin, leading the investigation, confirmed the incidents are linked. He pleaded with locals to dig out any CCTV or dashcam footage taken around the Newry area during the crime spree.
“We are treating these six reports as connected. Anyone with information must come forward,” said DS Cargin.
