Heroic Rescue as Kayaker Sinks Off Coast
A stranded kayaker managed to save himself by calling 999 just as his boat began sinking. HM Coastguard sprung into action, dispatching a Rescue Team and the Littlehampton RNLI Lifeboat Station to the scene.
Quick Thinking Saves the Day
While the rescue was underway, the kayaker called back with a more precise location. This crucial info helped the lifeboat zero in on him. Thanks to the combined efforts of the coastguard and lifeboat crew, he was rescued and brought safely ashore.
Expert Praise for Safety Measures
Darren Crisp from Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue Team praised the kayaker’s smart choices. “Not only did he keep his phone in a waterproof pouch, but he was also wearing a full wetsuit and a Personal Flotation Device (PFD).”
“For 45 minutes in the water, he had buoyancy. Staying with his kayak was the right move too.”
Top Tips from the Coastguard
- Always wear a PFD when kayaking
- Keep a waterproof means of contacting shore
- Wear the right kit — wetsuit, buoyancy aids, and waterproof gear
- If in trouble, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately
