RNLI Lifeboat Rescues Yacht Snagged by Lobster Pot
The Bembridge RNLI lifeboat was scrambled at 12:45pm today after UK Solent Coastguard called for backup. Hayling Island RNLI’s Atlantic 85 was struggling with a 50ft yacht tangled up in a lobster pot around its propeller and rudder.
Quick Response in Mid-Solent Waters
The Bembridge lifeboat swiftly reached the yacht, stranded mid-Solent between Bembridge and Hayling Island. The tow was handed over to the Alfred Albert Williams, which had more muscle than the Atlantic 85. Meanwhile, the Atlantic 85 managed to free the yacht from the pesky pot line.
Safe Return to Chichester Harbour
After a 10-minute tow, control was passed back to the Atlantic 85. The lifeboat ensured the yacht was safely towed into Chichester Harbour—its starting point earlier that morning. The Alfred Albert Williams then returned to base, recovered by 2pm.
