Boat Drags Anchor and Sinks Near Brighton Marina
At 10:23 on 22 May 2024, Shoreham Coastguard and Brighton RNLI scrambled to a vessel dragging its anchor west of Brighton Marina. A frantic search kicked off to find the boat’s owner, believed to have come ashore.
Owner Missing as Coastguard Finds Abandoned Boat
The Coastguard discovered a small inflatable dinghy nearby but couldn’t locate anyone connected to the vessel. The RNLI confirmed the boat was empty — no one was onboard.
Rough Seas Prevent Rescue Crew Boarding
Due to rough sea conditions, rescuers decided it was too dangerous to place a crew member on the drifting vessel. The boat soon smashed into the marina wall, took serious damage, and sank shortly after.
