Body Found in Southampton Water Sparks Ferry Drama

Chaos hit Southampton Water this morning when two Red Funnel ferries scrambled after a body was spotted drifting near Calshot Spit. The shocking discovery delayed ferry services, leaving commuters stranded.

Ferry Crew Spring into Action

Just before 10am, the Red Osprey ferry, en route from East Cowes to Southampton, spotted something floating in the water. The crew immediately raised the alarm with HM Coastguard, turned the ferry around, and stayed on scene to help emergency teams.

Recovery Mission Underway

The Red Kestrel freight ferry took over standby duties while brave Calshot RNLI volunteers launched their inshore lifeboat to recover the body. The victim was brought ashore safely, but details about the identity and cause remain under wraps.

The Red Osprey finally resumed its journey to Southampton, arriving about 45 minutes late – causing knock-on delays throughout the ferry schedule.

Investigation Ongoing as Normal Service Returns

By 10:30am, the Red Kestrel was back on route and services began getting back on track. Authorities are currently investigating the incident alongside HM Coastguard.

Red Funnel has apologised for the disruption and informed passengers about the delays. More updates will be released as the story develops.
