RNLI Lifeboat Rescues Fishing Trawler on Easter Day
Bembridge RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat sprang into action on Easter Sunday to rescue a 16-metre fishing trawler stranded at sea. The RNLB Alfred Albert Williams (Tamar All Weather Lifeboat 16-17) launched at around 9am after a mechanical failure left the trawler, with five crew onboard, dead in the water in fishing grounds southeast of the Isle of Wight.
Swift Rescue Near Nab Tower
The lifeboat reached the vessel by 9.18am, three miles north of Nab Tower. They took over the tow from another fishing boat and headed for portsmouth/" title="Portsmouth" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Portsmouth.
Safe Arrival in Portsmouth Harbour
Once in Portsmouth, the trawler was handed over to a local fishing boat, which manoeuvred her safely into the Camber after the Wight Link ferry had sailed. The Alfred Albert Williams then returned to Bembridge, arriving back by 12.45pm.
