Coastguard Scramble After Person Breaks Leg Near Ventnor

Rescue Teams Rush to Windy Corner

Bembridge and Ventnor coastguard rescue crews were called out this afternoon (Sunday, August 5) to assist the Islands ambulance service. The alert came just after 2:30pm following reports of a person who had fallen and broken their leg near Niton Undercliffe, on the outskirts of Ventnor.

Helicopter Airlift on Standby

The UK’s Coastguard search and rescue helicopter, Rescue 175, based on the Solent, was deployed to the scene at Windy Corner, close to St Catherine’s Lighthouse. The team aims to airlift the injured individual to safety as quickly as possible.

Air Ambulance Busy Elsewhere

Meanwhile, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight air ambulance is currently attending a separate medical incident near Newport, meaning the coastguard helicopter is leading efforts at Ventnor.
