EastEnders Icon Sonia Fowler Takes Emotional Final Bow After 30 Years
EastEnders fans were left reaching for the tissues on Thursday night as Sonia Fowler, played by Natalie Cassidy, said an emotional goodbye to Albert Square after more than three decades on the BBC soap.
Sonia’s Heartbreaking Send-Off
The 41-year-old actress first graced our screens in 1993 as a trumpet-playing schoolgirl, and Sonia has been a staple of Walford ever since. In a touching farewell, Sonia reluctantly played her infamous trumpet one last time before making a dramatic escape on a boat hooked to a 123 at the Queen Vic during EastEnders’ 40th anniversary live episode.
Natalie Cassidy first quit the soap in 2007 but made several cameo returns before coming back full-time in 2014. In January, she announced her departure, admitting she was “extremely sad” but “very excited” for what lies ahead.
The End of an Era
The episode also marked the exit of Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer), who returned last year to reunite with her father David Wicks (Michael French). Palmer is currently starring on ITV’s Celebrity Big Brother.
Fans flooded social media with love and gratitude for Sonia and Natalie Cassidy’s dedication over the years. Her farewell is yet another tear-jerking exit in a spate of departures, signalling a new chapter for EastEnders.
