Deadly Blaze Hits Disabled Holiday Home in France
A devastating fire ripped through a holiday home for disabled guests in eastern France, leaving 11 people missing and sparking a frantic rescue mission.
Eleven Missing as Fire Engulfs Wintzenheim Cottage
The fire broke out at around 6:30am in Wintzenheim, north-eastern France. Seventeen people were evacuated, and one was rushed to hospital, but 11 remain unaccounted for.
Massive Emergency Response Launched
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin voiced grave concerns over possible casualties. Emergency services swung into action with 76 firefighters, four fire engines, and four ambulances battling the inferno.
The blaze consumed 300 square metres of the 500-square-metre building, which was hosting a group from Nancy. Despite the ferocity, the fire was brought under control relatively quickly.
Rescue Efforts Ongoing as Authorities Search for Missing
Darmanin confirmed most of the building was destroyed. The hunt for the missing continues amid grim fears for their safety.
