Flybe Launches Daily Southampton to Lyon Flights
Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has just confirmed a new daily route from Southampton to Lyon. This fresh addition forms part of Flybe’s 2016 Summer schedule and is backed by the Government’s Regional Air Connectivity Fund.
Flybe’s New Route: Affordable and Convenient
Tickets are now on sale at flybe.com, with one-way fares starting at just £29.99, including taxes and charges. The flights run from 23rd May through 29th October 2016.
Lyon is a gateway to France with superb transport links, including high-speed trains ideal for exploring more of the country. Passengers can easily visit Lyon’s historic sites, a designated World Heritage location, or venture further afield with Geneva less than two hours away by car and Turin under four.
Government Backing Regional Connectivity
The Department for Transport’s Regional Air Connectivity Fund aims to boost regional airports with fewer than five million passengers annually. Last year, they shortlisted new international and domestic routes for UK regional airports. Flybe won nearly half of these routes, including the Southampton to Lyon service.
Aviation Minister Robert Goodwill said: “It is fantastic to see Flybe launch this new service between Southampton and Lyon. Our smaller airports are vital engines for local economies, connecting the UK and overseas destinations and opening up opportunities. That is why the Government is backing new regional air routes to drive investment and boost growth across the country.”
Flybe and Southampton Airport Speak Out
Vincent Hodder, Flybe’s Chief Revenue Officer, said: “Our new daily service between Southampton and Lyon shows our commitment to strengthening connections between Southampton airport and France. We aim to offer unrivalled options and time-saving travel from the South Coast.”
Dave Lees, Managing Director of Southampton Airport, added: “Lyon, France’s second largest metro area after Paris, is renowned for its gastronomy and a hub for banking, chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotech industries. This route will be popular with both leisure and business travellers. We are pleased the Government has supported it through the Regional Air Connectivity Fund.”
Expanding Flybe’s Southampton Network
This new route is part of Flybe’s Summer 2016 offering of 30 routes from Southampton, with up to 357 weekly flights giving travellers a wealth of choice.
