Massive Fire Response at Botley Road
Fire crews battled a fierce blaze at a block of flats on Botley Road, Park Gate, late Saturday night. Eight fire engines and 40 firefighters from Hightown, Fareham, Cosham, Portchester, Eastleigh, St Marys, Southsea, and Botley rushed to the scene after the fire broke out just after 10.20pm.
Residents Report Gas Explosion
Witnesses claim a gas explosion in one flat blew a fireball through the property and up into the roof space. Police are probing reports that the ignition might have been triggered by an accelerant poured through the letterbox. Thankfully, no serious injuries have been reported.
Animals Rescued as Fire Rages
Firefighters rescued several pets from a second-floor flat as the fire spread rapidly. Residents from nearby flats were evacuated for safety while crews tackled the intense flames.
Firefighters Battle Blaze Through the Night
A specialist aerial ladder and a command and control unit remain on site as crews expect to work into the early hours. Hampshire Fire spokesman confirmed the cause is still unknown and under investigation.
