Gosport MP Visits New Same Day Access GP Service
Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage paid a visit to the freshly launched Same Day Access Service at Gosport War Memorial Hospital last Friday. The new service, based at the hospital, aims to slash GP waiting times and improve patient care across the area.
Revolutionising GP Access in Gosport
Currently staffed by teams from four local GP practices—Waterside (Mumby Road), Stoke Road, Brune (Rowner Road), and Forton (Whites Place)—the service offers same-day telephone triage and face-to-face appointments. This innovative hub is tackling the notorious delays patients often face when trying to see their GP.
MP Sees Firsthand How Service Eases Pressure
During her visit, Caroline met with key figures behind the project, including Dr Donal Collins, GP lead for Better Local Care; Gethin Hughes, Director of Services at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust; and Kerry Cooper, Better Local Care General Manager.
She also spoke with Dr Sarah Brooks, GP partner at Forton Medical Centre, who revealed the enormous pressure local practices are under and how the new service is already helping to lighten the load.
“It was great to see the difference that the Same Day Access Service is already starting to make for Gosport constituents. It is encouraging to see GP practices working together to tackle the frustration for people having to wait for GP appointments, whilst improving the quality and experience of care,” said Caroline Dinenage. “I hope more surgeries join this successful same-day appointment pilot to make it sustainable for the future.”
Impressive Numbers Back the Service
