Jet2 Flight Hits Trouble: Emergency Landing After “Loud Bang” and Burning Smell
A Jet2 flight from Antalya to Manchester was forced into an emergency U-turn just 90 minutes after takeoff. Passengers were left stunned after hearing a “loud bang” and smelling burning chemicals inside the cabin.
The flight, which departed Antalya at 11:45pm on Tuesday, saw several passengers vomiting and struggling to stay calm as confusion spread onboard.
Passengers Describe Chaos on Board
One witness told the Manchester Evening News, “People sat near the left wing looking out the window, vomiting and unable to put their feet on the floor. Hardly any information was given, which made it worse.”
Flight tracking data confirmed the plane made an abrupt U-turn, heading straight back to Antalya Airport where it landed safely.
Jet2 Responds: Hotel Stays and New Flights for Stranded Passengers
A Jet2 spokesperson said the crew followed standard safety procedures: “We arranged for all customers to be provided with hotel accommodation overnight and will fly them to Manchester the following day. We apologise for the delay to their travel plans.”
The incident hits as Jet2 was celebrating the launch of its Summer 2026 programme, including new city breaks to Budapest, Prague, and Paris.
Investigation Underway as Jet2 Keeps Details Close
Jet2 has launched a probe into the technical glitch but has yet to reveal what caused the alarming blast and burning smell. Passengers are hoping for answers soon, but for now, relief comes from the safe landing and promises of swift passenger care.
