Havant Council Leader Joins Bin Crew for a Hard-Hitting Shift

Havant Borough Council’s boss, Councillor Alex Rennie, rolled up his sleeves and hit the streets with a Norse South East (NSE) bin crew last week. He took part in a morning rubbish run on Thursday, 19 August, to see firsthand the tough job these crews tackle every day.

Bin Crews Battle On Despite Staff Shortages

Through the pandemic, the hardworking NSE teams have kept bin collections running against the odds. With a shortage of HGV drivers, their workload has only increased – but they keep going, collecting a staggering 105 tonnes of rubbish and 30 tonnes of recycling daily in the borough.

“They Deserve Our Utmost Respect,” Says Council Leader

“It was a pleasure to join the fantastic crew on a collection round,” said Councillor Rennie. “These guys have worked throughout lockdown and continue to keep one of our most vital services going during this incredibly difficult time.”

“I saw just how much effort goes into their work. NSE crews start at the crack of dawn, no matter the weather, to empty our waste. They deserve our utmost respect and appreciation.”
