Lifeboat Scrambled After Two Trapped on Capsized Boat in Portsmouth Harbour

Emergency crews raced to Portsmouth Harbour tonight after reports of two people clinging to an upturned boat in the busy shipping area.

Rescue Mission Underway

The Independent Gosport and Fareham Inshore Lifeboat was launched alongside Portsmouth and Hillhead Coastguard Rescue teams. The lifeboat was on scene within ten minutes after a third party alerted the UK Coastguard Operations Centre.

Stranded After Tide and Mud Trap

The pair had reportedly been stuck for about an hour after being caught out by the tide and mud. At one point, they even tried to crawl on their bellies back to shore after playing on a surfboard.

Two-Hour Search Ends Safely

The lifeboat crew used FLAIR camera technology for an extensive search, supported by a land search from coastguard teams. After two hours, rescue efforts were stood down as the individuals had made it safely to shore.
