A 59-year-old man has died after collapsing during police detention in Bootle, sparking a serious investigation.

Man Collapses After Being Detained by Police

The tragic incident happened on Southport Road just before 12:24 PM on Monday. Officers from Merseyside Police detained the man, whose identity has not been released. He suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness at the scene.

Police quickly administered CPR and called the North West Ambulance Service for urgent medical aid. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Police Watchdog Steps In

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has launched a probe into the circumstances of the man’s detention and subsequent death. This is standard procedure whenever a death occurs following police contact.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “The man’s next of kin have been informed, and Merseyside Police offers its condolences to his family.”
