Neighbours Become Heroes in Daring Leigh House Fire Rescue
Two quick-thinking neighbours have been hailed as heroes after saving a family of three from a blazing house fire in Leigh. Their courageous actions came before firefighters even arrived, earning praise from the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS).
Ladder Rescue Beats Flames to the Punch
Fire crews raced to a semi-detached home on Laxley Crescent just after 6am to find the house engulfed in flames. But ahead of them were two neighbours using a ladder to get the family out safely.
Thanks to their fearless intervention, the family was rushed to hospital as a precaution. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
Firefighters Launch Full-Scale Battle Against Blaze
- Four fire engines from Hindley, Atherton, and Leigh stations battled the fire.
- Specialist units including an aerial ladder platform from Bolton Central and Leigh’s enhanced rescue unit joined in.
- Three hose reels and a short extension ladder were deployed to douse the flames.
Firefighters will remain in the area over coming days to advise locals on fire safety amid the festive season and to stress the importance of working smoke alarms.
Station Manager Hails Neighbours’ Bravery
“We would like to thank these neighbours who bravely sprang into action to rescue this family from their home as firefighters arrived to tackle the fire,” said Chris Evans, Station Manager for Wigan and Hindley fire stations.
“Our crews will be in the area over the coming days to reassure residents about being fire safe at home during winter, and to stress the importance of having a working smoke alarm on every floor.
“What the neighbours did here was incredibly brave and we commend them for this.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
