Police remain locked in talks with a 72-year-old man believed to be armed inside a house on Harbour Road, Pagham. Emergency services were called just after 4pm on Sunday following reports of threatening behaviour.
A woman known to the man was also inside but left safely soon after officers arrived. The elderly man is still inside the property alone.
Harbour Road Locked Down as Police Negotiate
Detective Superintendent Carwyn Hughes praised the local community for their patience during the tense standoff.
“Harbour Road remains closed and a police cordon is in place,” Hughes said. “The safety of residents is our priority. We’re working hard to ensure people’s daily routines and Bank Holiday plans aren’t disrupted.”
He added residents can move in and out of their properties with police escort while officers continue efforts to resolve the situation peacefully.
Negotiators in Ongoing Talks with Armed Man
“Communication between a trained negotiator and the 72-year-old man is ongoing,” Hughes confirmed, as police try to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.
