Firefighters Rescue Seven Ducklings Trapped in Storm Drain
Early Sunday morning, Newcastle Central Community Fire Station crew pulled off a heartwarming rescue — but not your typical emergency. At just after 10am, Blue Watch firefighters rushed to Castle Leazes Student Accommodation in Spital Tongues after a Newcastle University student raised the alarm.
Worried Mammy Duck Leads Rescuers to Trapped Young
The cause? Seven ducklings stuck down a storm drain, with their anxious mammy duck circling above, flapping her wings and quacking frantically. A small crowd of concerned students had heard the commotion and spotted the ducklings trapped beneath the grate.
Swift Action Saves Seven Tiny Lives
Firefighters quickly scraped away muck, used a crowbar to loosen the grate, and carefully freed all seven ducklings. The grateful mother duck and her brood were reunited and waddled off into the day, safe and sound.
The crew left the scene by 10:30am, proud to help a mum in need and her seven little miracles. “It’s not every day we get to save the lives of seven ducklings,” said one firefighter, praising the quick-thinking students who first raised the alarm.
