Tragedy struck early this morning on the M42 near Sutton Coldfield. West Midlands Ambulance Service rushed to the scene at junction 9 North just after 3:30am, sending a serious response team including three ambulances, paramedic officers, a MERIT trauma doctor, and a critical care paramedic.
Passenger Dies After Horrific Crash
On arrival, crews found a passenger from the first car in critical condition. Despite frantic attempts at advanced life support on the spot, the man was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.
Driver Fighting Serious Injuries
The driver of the first car didn’t escape unscathed. Suffering serious injuries, he was treated by paramedics before being rushed under blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Second Car Driver Hurt but Stable
The driver of the second vehicle escaped with non-life threatening injuries. After receiving on-scene care, he was taken to Heartlands Hospital for further checks.
The crash has left the motorway partially blocked and police are investigating the cause.
