Shock Theft: Pensioner Targeted Inside Blyth Morrisons
CCTV caught the moment an 85-year-old shopper was robbed inside Blyth Morrisons at around 2.30pm on March 27. The vulnerable pensioner was distracted reaching for fruit when a woman nabbed her shopping trolley.
Suspect Caught on Camera
- Woman described as 50s/60s with greying brown cropped hair
- Wore a khaki jacket and grey joggers
- Entered pushing a pram with a toddler, but left shop alone
- Believed to be with two younger females who entered after her
The trolley’s bag was later found outside, emptied of all valuables.
Stolen Cards Used at Local Shop
The same day, a younger female used the stolen cards at a Premier store in Blyth, buying scratch cards and cigarettes. Further purchases were refused when the card was declined.
Police Appeal for Help
“To steal from anyone is unacceptable but to prey on an elderly woman while her back is turned is absolutely disgusting,” said a Northumbria Police spokesperson.
“This thief has robbed not only belongings but the pensioner’s independence and sense of safety.”
“We’ve run extensive checks but haven’t identified the suspect. We urge the public to come forward.”
