North Yorkshire Helicopter Crash Claims Life of Lord-Lieutenant Barry Dodd

Tragedy struck in North Yorkshire yesterday when a helicopter crashed in a crop field near Aldborough, Boroughbridge. Emergency services rushed to the scene at 1.23pm on Wednesday, 30 May, but the pilot was pronounced dead on impact.

Pilot Identified as Lord-Lieutenant Barry Dodd CBE

North Yorkshire Police confirmed the victim is believed to be Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, Mr Barry Dodd CBE. The force said: “One man, believed to be the pilot of the private aircraft, was pronounced dead at the scene. No further casualties have been reported.”

Area Cordoned Off as Investigation Continues

Officers quickly sealed off the crash site to conduct a thorough search. While formal identification is pending, police have asked the public to respect the privacy of Mr Dodd’s family during this difficult time.

“Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time and request that their privacy is respected,” a police spokesman added.
