A huge blaze erupted last night at Woodend Hospital in Aberdeen, sending around 50 firefighters into action. The fire broke out just before 9.50pm at the disused Westholme building on Eday Road.
Firefighters Battle Overnight Inferno
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service deployed eight fire engines plus a specialist height appliance to tackle the fierce flames. Crews battled throughout Monday night and are continuing their efforts into Tuesday morning.
Locals Urged to Stay Safe Amid Heavy Smoke
Authorities have warned nearby residents to keep windows and doors shut to avoid smoke inhalation. People are also urged to steer clear of the area while emergency services work to bring the fire under control.
“Around 50 firefighters are currently tackling a fire at the Woodend Hospital building on Eday Road in Aberdeen,” said a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. “Nearby residents are urged to keep windows and doors closed due to large volumes of smoke, and to avoid the area at this time.”
An NHS Grampian spokesperson added: “Firefighters were called to a disused office building on the Woodend Hospital site, in Aberdeen, at around 9.50pm this evening. No patients or staff currently occupy this building. The building, Westholme, lies around 60 metres from the closest hospital building.”
