Carillion Collapse Hits 800 Queen Alexandra Hospital Workers
Workers Left in the Lurch
Some 800 staff at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, employed by the now-collapsed Carillion, have been told their pay will stop from 1st February. Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the hospital, said, “Discussions are ongoing about appointing a successor to Carillion.”
Carillion’s Collapse Sends Shockwaves
Carillion, the UK’s second-largest construction giant, went under under a colossal £1.5 billion debt mountain. Despite talks with lenders and the government, no rescue deal was struck. The firm handled vital hospital services like maintenance, parking, and security.
Thousands of Jobs at Risk
The collapse puts around 20,000 UK jobs on the line, with thousands more employed overseas. The fallout is already causing chaos across NHS facilities and beyond.
