Wood Lane Shut After Nighttime Crash in Dagenham

Wood Lane in Dagenham is still shut both ways following a serious single-vehicle smash late Friday night. Emergency crews rushed to the scene at 10:25 PM on February 21, 2025, near Marston Avenue.

Driver Trapped and Rescued by Firefighters

Firefighters from the London Fire Brigade used specialist gear to cut the roof off the wrecked car and free the trapped driver. The London Ambulance Service treated the motorist at the scene before rushing them to hospital. Thankfully, the injuries aren’t believed to be life-changing.

Traffic Chaos as Buses Diverted

  • Wood Lane remains closed both directions.
  • Bus routes 5, 173, 175, 499, and EL2 are on diversion, with some vehicles stuck inside the closure.
  • Motorists are urged to avoid the area and find alternate routes amid growing congestion.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: “Crews worked swiftly to safely extricate the driver using specialist equipment. The scene has now been handed over to the police for further investigation.”
