Coronavirus Hits Isle of Wight School: Year 8 Bubble Told to Isolate

The Bay CE Secondary School in Sandown on the Isle of Wight has confirmed a Year 8 student tested positive for COVID-19 this week.

Year 8 Students Told to Self-Isolate

Headteacher Teresa Westcott-Hayes informed parents that all Year 8 pupils must self-isolate for the week. However, students in other year groups can continue attending school as long as they show no symptoms.

School Follows Government Guidance to Keep Pupils Safe

A school spokesperson said: “Following government guidelines and working closely with Isle of Wight Council and Public Health England, we have asked several pupils to self-isolate before returning to school.”

“This is a scenario we have prepared for and, while unfortunate, the safety of our pupils and school community comes first. Due to confidentiality, we cannot share further details but will keep working with Public Health England,” the spokesperson added.

School Remains Open for Other Years

The school will stay open for Years 7, 9, 10, and 11, with all parents of affected pupils being contacted for further advice.
