Popular Firefighter Dies Suddenly at Dorset Station
A firefighter has tragically died while on duty at Christchurch Fire Station in Dorset. Firefighter Simon Kaye was rushed to hospital, but doctors’ efforts to save him sadly failed.
Colleagues and Community in Shock
Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Chief Fire Officer, Ben Ansell, said: “This morning, Firefighter Simon Kaye was taken ill during a routine day shift at Christchurch Fire Station. Despite valiant attempts by his colleagues, paramedics, doctors and nurses at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital, Simon sadly passed away.”
Ben added, “Our thoughts at this very sad time are with Simon’s family, friends, and colleagues who were with him when he fell ill. We do not believe Simon’s death is related to the Coronavirus outbreak.”
Tributes Pour In for Veteran Firefighter
Simon had served as a firefighter for over 30 years, including time in West Yorkshire, and was highly respected by all who knew him.
Chief Fire Officer Ansell said, “Simon was an experienced, professional, and skilled firefighter. His passing is a huge loss to us all. My thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his partner and family.”
Flags across Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue stations will fly at half-mast in Simon’s honour. Ben also paid tribute to the firefighters and emergency workers who fought hard to save Simon’s life.
