Tide drama at Seven Sisters as surfers rescue stranded walkers
Coastguard scrambled for second time in a day
Birling Gap Coastguard were called out again on Tuesday after surfers spotted two walkers trapped by the rising tide below the iconic Seven Sisters cliffs. The team, just recently stood down from an earlier incident, quickly swung into action.
Surfers heroically assist before coastguard arrival
Brave surfers helped the stranded pair to safety before handing them over to Coastguard crews. Unfortunately, during the rescue, one surfer lost their board to the choppy sea.
Lifeboat dispatched but stood down
Newhaven lifeboat was paged at 2:05pm and set off from port. However, the crew was stood down shortly after as the situation came under control.
Coastguard issues safety warning
“Great respect to the surfers and hope you located your abandoned board,” said Birling Gap Coastguard.
“The two rescued were very grateful to the surfers and all involved.”
The Coastguard reminds everyone to always check tide times before walking beneath the cliffs to avoid getting cut off.
