Tragic M5 Horror: Teen Killed After Dashing From Ambulance into Traffic

A heartbreaking tragedy struck the M5 late on Sunday when an 18-year-old man stepped out of an ambulance and ran into live traffic – only to be fatally hit by a car.

What Went Down on the M5?

Just after 11pm, emergency medics pulled over on the northbound carriageway between Weston-super-Mare and Clevedon. They were en route to hospital with the teenager when he suddenly jumped from the ambulance and sprinted onto the busy motorway.

A nearby police officer desperately tried to save him, but within moments the youngster was struck by a southbound vehicle. Paramedics rushed to the scene but pronounced him dead on the spot. His devastated family have been informed and are receiving support.

Police Watchdog Launches Probe

Because the fatal collision happened while the man was in police contact, the case has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for a full, independent investigation.

Assistant Chief Constable Joanne Hall said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family at such a devastating time. We will support them in any way we can.”

“This has deeply affected our officers and ambulance crews, who are very upset.”

“We’re also providing welfare support to the public involved or who witnessed the tragedy.”

“A mandatory referral has been made to the IOPC and we’re fully cooperating with the investigation.”

The motorway was closed briefly, causing chaos for late-night travellers as emergency teams worked.
