UK Cold Weather Alert Extended Amid Icy Blast

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has extended its level 3 cold weather alert until 9am on Thursday, 16 March. This severe warning covers the North East, North West, and Yorkshire and the Humber. Meanwhile, a level 2 alert remains in place for the West Midlands, East Midlands, and East of England.

Experts Warn: Cold Snap Could Be Deadly

“As cold weather persists throughout the rest of the week, it is important to check in on the wellbeing of those most vulnerable to the cold,” warned Dr Agostinho Sousa, Head of Extreme Events and Health Protection at UKHSA.

“Cold weather can have a serious impact on health, particularly older people and those with pre-existing health conditions, as it increases the risks of heart attacks, strokes and chest infections.”

“If you have a pre-existing medical condition or are over the age of 65, it is important to try and heat your home to at least 18°C if you can.”

Stay Safe: Who Needs to Watch Out

  • Older adults over 65
  • People with existing health problems
  • Anyone living in the affected regions

Don’t underestimate the cold. Keep your heating on and look out for vulnerable neighbours and family. This icy snap isn’t over yet.
