Massive Blaze Blocks M25 Near A1 – Nightmare Delays Hit Rush Hour
A blazing vehicle has sparked chaos on the M25 near Junctions 23 and 24, causing havoc during the evening rush.
HGV Fire Shuts M25 Clockwise
Fire crews and police were called just after 6pm to tackle a HGV that erupted in flames between J23 (South Mimms) and J24 (Potters Bar). The blaze forced a complete closure of the M25 clockwise.
Serious Delays Across A1(B) and Surrounding Roads
The A1 Barnet Bypass is crawling southbound from M25 J23 to A1 Watford Way, with traffic grinding to a halt. Highways England reports queues stretching approximately 11 miles, with journey times adding up to 90 minutes or more.
Follow Diversion Signs or Brace for Gridlock
Drivers are urged to follow the “Hollow Yellow Triangle” diversion. Exit the M25 clockwise at J23, take the 5th exit onto the A1 heading south, pass Henlys Corner, then switch onto the A406 North Circular Road towards Wood Green. Continue to Great Cambridge Junction, then take the slip road to the roundabout and exit onto the A10. Finally, re-join the M25 clockwise at J25.
A Highways England spokesman said: “The M25 in Hertfordshire is closed clockwise between J23 and J24 due to a HGV fire. Please allow extra time and follow the diversion signage.”
At this stage, no injuries have been reported. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect prolonged delays.
