M25 Chaos: Lorry Blaze Closes Key Stretch Between J23 and J24
Emergency crews are battling a blazing lorry on the M25 between Junction 23 (South Mimms) and Junction 24 (Potters Bar). The motorway is completely shut eastbound after a vehicle erupted in flames just after 6pm during rush hour.
Major Delays and Road Closures
The A1 Barnet Bypass is crawling with heavy southbound traffic from M25 J23 to A1 Watford Way. Officers from Highways England are holding traffic back as they tackle the blaze. It’s currently unclear if anyone has been injured.
Official Diversion Route Detailed
Highways England advises motorists to follow the “Hollow Yellow Triangle” diversion. The alternative route is:
- Exit M25 clockwise at Junction 23
- Take the 5th exit onto the A1 towards London
- Continue to Henlys Corner and bear left onto the A406 North Circular Road towards Wood Green
- At Great Cambridge Junction, take slip road to roundabout and 1st exit onto the A10
- Follow A10 to rejoin M25 clockwise at Junction 25
Expect Long Delays
Traffic jams stretch back approximately 11 miles. Drivers should brace for delays up to 90 minutes this evening. Avoid the area if you can, or prepare for a lengthy detour.
