Yaverland Beach Locked Down After Dangerous Flare Find
Yaverland Beach was plunged into lockdown today after a dog walker discovered a stash of unsafe flares. Hampshire Constabulary swooped in and sealed off part of the beach to allow the army to safely destroy the hazardous explosives.
Emergency Response on the Isle of Wight
Officers were alerted this morning by a member of the public walking their dog, triggering a swift response. An Aldershot-based explosives disposal team was dispatched to the Isle of Wight to handle the risky flares.
Dangerous Flares Too Hazardous to Move
The flares were deemed far too unsafe for transport to the mainland. Authorities set up an 80-metre exclusion zone around the discovery site, keeping beachgoers well away from the dangerous area.
Second Blast Needed to Finish the Job
The initial detonation failed to completely destroy the flares. A second, controlled explosion was carried out in front of onlookers to finish the job and ensure public safety.
