Littlehampton RNLI Mourns Lifeboat Legend Ivan Warren

The volunteer crew at Littlehampton RNLI lifeboat station are grieving the loss of Ivan Warren, a beloved Deputy Launching Authority (DLA) and local sea legend. Ivan passed away on 24th March 2020 after battling a long illness.

Sea Hero and Lifeboat Launch Master

Ivan, 68, was a familiar face around Littlehampton Harbour and served as DLA for nine years. This vital role saw him responsible for the critical launch of lifeboats, ensuring rescue missions ran smoothly.

Captain of the Seas and Wreck Hunter

For years, Ivan captained his charter boat, Michelle Mary, running diving and fishing trips off the Sussex coast. He also made a name for himself by discovering and identifying numerous shipwrecks in the area.

Ivan’s loyal dog, Skipper, was a fixture on board, sporting his own lifejacket and even a mini boat of his own.

Tributes Pour In

“Ivan’s expertise and knowledge of our stretch of sea was second to none,” said Nick White, Littlehampton RNLI’s Lifeboat Operations Manager. “He lived and breathed boats and the sea, mastered technology, and always knew what was happening. A totally dependable launching authority, he loved being involved. Ivan will be greatly missed by everyone and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time.”

Remembering Ivan

Ivan leaves behind his partner Sharon Neem, two daughters in Scotland, and a brother and sister-in-law in Australia. His funeral took place at Littlehampton Cemetery on 9th April 2020, with Sharon in attendance.
