Car Crashes Into School Bus Near Petersfield – Major Road Shut
The A272 London Road near Petersfield was slammed shut this morning after a dramatic crash involving a school bus and a silver Ford Focus.
Overtake Goes Horribly Wrong
The accident happened just before 8am at the junction with Habbin Hill. Witnesses say the 24-year-old female driver overtook a lorry before smashing head-on into the school bus.
Emergency services rushed to the scene near the Hampshire-West Sussex border, by Durford Abbey Farm between Rogate and Petersfield.
Driver Airlifted with Serious Injuries
Firefighters had to use hydraulic rescue gear to cut the woman free from the wrecked car. She was airlifted to hospital with two broken legs.
School Kids Safe, But Road Closure Continues
A West Sussex Police spokesman confirmed that none of the 14 schoolchildren on the bus were hurt.
However, the A272 remains closed between the B2070 London Road in Sheet and the Habbin Hill junction in Rogate as investigations and clean-up continue.
Emergency crews from both Hampshire and West Sussex battled the chaos on the busy route this morning.
