Police investigate if Bin Lorry may have been speeding following Crash on M27 Motorway

Whilst drivers battle the rush hour traffic and delays to get home this evening on the M27 following the Bin lorry crash. Specialist collision and crash scene police officers have spent the afternoon examining the dustcart and downloading the on board tachograph of the mangled vehicle to check to see if the lorry may have been speeding when the collision happen. One theory being looked at is the vehicle may have been speeding. The dustcart is fitted with a speed limiter and the vehicle is a rear wheeled automatic. At the time of the incident the vehicle was travelling down hill given these factors this may have caused the vehicle to tip over. The driver of the truck was taken to hospital with chest injuries. The eastbound carriageway was closed for over five hours as the clean up operation took place. Gosport Borough Council has said the bin lorry that crashed on the M27 belonged to its contractor Urbaser Ltd.
