Driver Escapes life changing injuries after Car Ploughs into Tree on Beeper Shute

A man has escaped serious injury after the vehicle he was driving –  a purple Skoda on Beeper Shute near Ryde –  left the road and ploughed into a tree just after 8.15pm on Sunday evening ( February 12). Emergency services rushed to the scene and closed off the notorious accident black spot that has claimed the lives of many over the years. Firefighters stablised and secured the vehicle before using cutting equipment to free the trapped driver. The man in his 20’s was freed and taken to St Mary’s hospital by ambulance in Newport. It is understood that the driver, a local man, underwent a brain scans to rule out any serious injuries following the collision. The road remained closed until just after 12.30 to aid recovery and collision investigation work by officers from the Island Roads Policing. Local bus services were put on diversion and were sent via Carpenters Road due to the closure.
