Lucky escape for driver as purple Skoda crashes into tree on notorious Isle of Wight blackspot
A man in his 20s walked away from a serious crash after his purple Skoda smashed into a tree on Beeper Shute near Ryde just after 8.15pm on Sunday, February 12. The infamous accident hotspot, known for taking lives over the years, was shut down by emergency crews rushing to the scene.
Emergency services race to rescue trapped driver
Two fire engines from Ryde arrived swiftly to stabilise the wrecked vehicle. Firefighters used cutting gear to free the trapped driver, who had an “extraordinarily lucky” escape, officials said. The man was then rushed by ambulance to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport, where brain scans were carried out to check for serious injuries.
Road closure sparks transport chaos
Beeper Shute remained closed until shortly after 12:30am for vehicle recovery and a police collision investigation. Island Roads Policing officers handled the inquiry, while local bus services were forced to divert via Carpenters Road, causing disruption for evening travellers.
Thankfully, no life-threatening injuries have been reported, but this accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers lurking on this deadly stretch of road.
