Police appeal for Footage after Rider Killed at Thruxton Race Circuit
Police are appealing for people who may have filmed a fatal collision at Thruxton Circuit to contact them. Officers received a report of a serious collision involving a motorcycle rider at the race track near Andover at 1.24pm today (Sunday 6 August). It is understood that the rider died following an incident in today’s Pirelli National Superstock 1000 race at Thruxton. Mark Fincham, 37, from Kings Lynn, sustained serious injuries in a two bike incident. The race was immediately stopped and the riders involved were treated trackside by the BSB Medical Team before being transferred to the circuit medical centre. During that treatment, he would unfortunately succumb to his injuries. A former Royal Marine, Fincham had part of his leg amputated after a road accident in 2007. 2017 was his first full season in the Pirelli National Superstock Championship with the True Heroes set-up, which offers injured service personnel and veterans the opportunity to be involved in high-level motorsport. The other rider involved in the incident, Jim Walker, was unhurt. A statement from series organisers read: “The management of Thruxton circuit and MSVR have to report that, following a two-machine motorcycle accident during a race for the Pirelli National Superstock 1000 Championship, a support race to this weekend’s round of the MCE British Superbike Championship (August 4/5/6 2017), the rider of bike number 903, Mark Fincham suffered serious injuries. “The race was immediately stopped and the riders involved were treated immediately trackside by the BSB Medical Team before being transferred to the circuit medical centre. “It is with great regret that we have to announce that Mark Fincham succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment. Police attended the scene to establish the exact circumstances of the death. It is not being treated as suspicious at this time.
