Yaverland beach on lockdown after Flare find
Officers from Hampshire Constabulary have placed part of Yaverland beach on lockdown for the army to safely destroy a number of unsafe flares that were found by a member of the public. Officers were called this morning after a dog walker alerted them to a suspected find. The Aldershot-based team were deployed to the Isle of Wight tasked with safely disposing of a number of expired flares. The flares were deemed too unsafe to transport to the mainland. A cordon has been put up around a section of the beach and members of the public are being kept away from the 80 metre exclusion zone The first detonation failed to fully destroy the items, so a second detonation was carried out in front of gathered onlookers.
